Q

Evaluate types of LTM.

A

+Research support from Tulving et al.
He found that episodic memories were recalled from the prefrontal cortex and semantic memories in the posterior region of the cortex. This increases the validity of the findings.

+Research support has real life applications.
If psychologists know about the separate stores of LTM then treatments can be developed to help people e.g. old people with mild cognitive impairment. Contribution to clinical world is highly valuable.

-It uses case studies to support the studies.
It therefore has low population validity because the situation is unique to the individual and can’t be generalised to the rest of the population.
