What is conformity?
A change in a persons behaviour or opinions as a result of real or imagined pressure from a person or a group of people.
What are the 3 types of conformity?
-Compliance
-Internalisation
-Identification
Explain Compliance
Superficial and temporary type of conformity. We publicly go along with it but privately disagree with it.
Explain internalisation
A deep type of conformity where we accept it as correct. Leads to a permanent change in attitudes, privately and publicly.
Explain identification
Moderate type of conformity, we act in the same way as a group, because we want to be part of it but don’t agree with everything.
Explain Informational Social Influence
Where we agree with the opinion of the majority because we believe it is right.
Explain Normative social influence
where we agree with the opinion of the majority because we want to gain social approval and be liked.
