Types Of Fractures Flashcards
What is a comminuated fracture and cause
Bones shatter into small pieces (splintered), usually caused by car accident or strong force
Oblique fracture and cause
Broken at an angle across the bone and is usually the result of sharp angled blow to the bone
Transverse fracture and cause
The bone break is at a right angle to the long plane of the bone, usually occurs as a result of a strong force applied perpendicular to the bone
Green stick fracture and cause
Usually occurs in children because bones are softer so bones splinter but do not completely break into 2, usually caused by sudden force (outer side breaks)
Spiral fracture and cause
Refers to fracture caused by a testing force that creates an oblique fracture through bone
What is a displaced fracture
A fully broken bone
Difference between compound and simple fracture
Compound- penetrates skin
Simple- does not penetrate skin
