Types of experiments Flashcards
What are advantages of lab study’s ?
Easy to replicate the test of validity + allow confident conclusions about cause and effect
What are disadvantages of lab study’s ?
Lacks External validity - difficult to generalise real-life situations. Demand characteristics people may act certain way
What are advantages of field experiment ? ( everyday seating with manipulation of iv )
Higher external validity findings generalised , higher mandate realism
What’s a disadvantage of field experiments?
Loss of control of cv & ev , ethical issues unaware to consent to study
What’s an advantage of natrual experiment ? (Natural situation I’ve naturally)
Real world situation’s external validity
What’s a disadvantage of natrual experiment?
Very rare for opportunity of research, may not be randomly allocated pre-existing IV’s
What’s quasi experiment
Exploits IV on existing differences eg gender or age
What’s an advantage of quasi experiment?
High control conditions, may results in cv’s that aren’t controlled
What’s a disadvantage of quasi experiment ?
Can’t randomly allocate participants
