Types of Experiment Flashcards
1
Q
What is a Quasi-experiment?
A
- Iv is based on an existing difference between pps. No random allocation
- Controlled conditions
2
Q
What is a Natural Experiment?
A
- IV changes without experimentor’s intervention, reasearcher records effects on the DV.
- No random allocation
- Provides opportunities for research that otherwise may not be undertaken for ethical or practical reasons. High external validity
- Naturally occurring event may only happen very rarely
3
Q
What is a strength and a limitation of Lab Experiments?
A
Strength: Maximum control
Weakness: Contrived setting
4
Q
What is a Strength and a Limitation of Field Experiment?
A
Strength: More natural setting
Weakness: Less control of extraneous variables
5
Q
What Defines an Experiment?
A
- All experiments involve a change in the IV and the effect on the DV is recorded/ measured
