Quantitative Data Flashcards
1
Q
How is quantitative data presented in a table?
A
- Quantitative data (raw scores) is converted to descriptive statistics and can be summarised in a table. Comments/conclusions are then included in a summary paragraph
2
Q
What is a skewed distribution/what causes them?
A
- Positive skew is when most of the distribution is concentrated on the left (and may be result of a very difficult test) and a negative skew is when most of the distribution is on the right (result of a very easy test)
3
Q
What is a Scattergram?
A
- A graph that represents the strength and direction of a relationship between co-variables
4
Q
What is a Normal Distribution?
A
- Symmetrical bell-shaped curve in which most people occupy the middle area and the mean, median and mode are all at the same central point. Many characteristics in a population, for example height, weight and IQ are normally distributed
5
Q
What is a Histogram?
A
- A type of graph in which the area of each bar represents frequency. The x-axis starts at true zero and is continuous
6
Q
What is a Bar Chart?
A
- A type of graph in which frequency of each variable is represented by the height of separated bars
