Q

Fixed acids

A

Do not leave solution.
Once produced, they remain in body fluids until they are eliminated by the kidneys.
Sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid are the most important fixed assets in the body.
They are generated in small amounts during the catabolism of amino acids and compounds that contain phosphate groups, including phospholipids and nucleic acids

Q

Organic acids

A

Take part in or are produced by cellular metabolism.
Important organic acids include lactic acid.
Under normal conditions, most organic acids are metabolized rapidly, so significant accumulations do not occur.

Q

Enzyme carbonic anhydrase

A

Speeds up the process of creating carbonic acid. Enzyme is found in the cytoplasm of red blood cell’s, liver and kidney cells, parietal cells of the stomach, and many other types of cells.

Q

What happens to carbon dioxide in solution

A

Most is converted to carbonic acid, and most of the carbonic acid dissociates into hydrogen ions and bicarbonate ions.

Q

The partial pressure of carbon dioxide and the pH are inversely related. In other words, when carbon dioxide levels increase

A

Additional hydrogen ions and bicarbonate ions are released, so the pH decreases

Q

As carbon dioxide leaves the bloodstream and diffuses into the Alveoli, The number of hydrogen ions and bicarbonate ions in the alveolar capillaries
