Side effects
GI (n&v, diarrhoea and constipation), hepatic impairment, allergic skin reactions in first 6-8 weeks, jaundice
Which patients should you use this in caution with
Caution in elderly pts with G6PD deficiency
Mechanism of action
Augment insulin secretion and consequently, only effective when some residual pancreatic beta cell activity is present
Give examples of long and short acting
Short – gliclazide
Long - Gliblenclamide

NSAIDs, ACE inhibitors, st john wort
