How did Sam Houston feel about joining the United States?
Houston felt as though annexation for Texas would solve many problems, and that it would be approved quickly. Texas was in major debt so he thought by joining the U.S this would go away. Was very supportive of annexation.

The era of reconstruction ( 1865 - 1877) was to rebuild and unite the southern states that seceded. To change laws and rules about slavery in the constitution.

After President Lincoln died President Johnson took over the reconstruction plan.
Which Reconstruction was tougher on Texas?
President Johnson’s reconstruction plan was tougher because not many people agreed with his plan. So he faced many issues like the Radical Republican push back, impeachment and black codes against him.

The Emancipation Proclamation stated that slavery was dead, and that the civil war was officially over.

Black Codes was a way of calling race based discrimination. These laws prohibited where Africans lived, their jobs, or even who they could marry. This was considered another form of slavery.

When the great depression happened, prohibition was ended in hopes of boosting the economy. The government thought by bringing back alcohol more jobs would open up ending the depression.

Limited government leaders do not have complete control over citizens. In this government everyone, even the authority figures must abide by the laws written.

The legislative branch is there to propose and aprove bills.

The Executive branch’s main function is to enforce the laws. The governor decides if he or she wants to veto or keep the law.

The job of the Judicial branch is to make sure that all citizens are enforcing the laws and obeying justice.
