Turtle Bayou Resolutions
At Turtle Bayou the Texans declared their loyalty to Mexico and the federalists but not the current Mexican government.
Conventions of 1832/1833
1832 the convention discussed Texas being made a separate state but these requests were never presented to the Mexican Government.
1833 the convention again drafted a proposal to made a separate state, drafted a state constitution and had Stephen F. Austin travel to Mexico City to present the drafts to the government.
Law of April 6th, 1830
Was based off of Mier y Teran’s report. It stopped immigration from the United States; it encouraged Mexican and European immigration into Texas and placed a tax on all imported goods coming into Texas. Newly build forts housed soldiers to enforce these laws.
Mier y Teran Report
Recommendations by General Mier y Teran who toured the Texas Territories. He was concerned about the growing Anglo American prescenes in Texas. He recommended that they stop American Immigration and encourage Mexican Immigration.
Consultation of 1835
A meeting at San Felipe where the members discussed the growing grievances between Texas and Mexico.. The members of the war party and the peace party discussed if they should align with Santa Anna or fight for the return of the Constitution of 1824. They chose delegates for a government and created an army
War Party and Peace Party
The War party was willing to go to war and wanted to declare independence from Mexico. The party members were led by William Wharton and Henry Smith.
The peace party was also willing to go to war but wanted to fight for the constitution of 1824.
Santa Anna
Federalist president of Mexico who promised to uphold the constitution of 1824 if he was to gain power, but quickly turned into a Centralist once he gained power. Once he became a dictator he led the army against the Texans in the Texas revolution
General Martin Perfecto de Cos
He provided troops and supplies to the Mexican army during the revolution
Why is the Alamo considered an important historical landmark of the Texas Revolution?
It symbolizes Texas courage because it was used as a fortress to fight Santa Anna’s troops
The Massacre of Goliad and why the Texans were outraged
The Texans were angered that prisoners who had willingly surrendered in battle were put to death
Santa Anna’s Ultimate Goals
To destroy the Rebels and regain control of the Texas Territory
Battle of San Jacinto-
final battle of revolution, lasted 18 minutes, only 9 texas casualties, Surprised Santa Anna by attacking at 3pm
Treaty of Velasco- ended the revolution
private- santa anna agreed to work to convince Mexico of Texas’ independence, agreed boundary would be rio grande
public- santa anna agreed to never fight Texas again, all mexican troops withdrawn from texas, exchange of prisoners
