tx class 2 malocclusions Flashcards
class II incisor classification
Lower incisor occluded behind the upper incisor cingulum plateau
div 1
- upper incisor proclined or normal angel
- lower tip of incisor is sitting behind the cingulum rest
div 2
- upper incisor is retroclined
- pink normal angulation
what is the main limiting factor in class 2 treatments
skeletal pattern
- growing and non growing patient)
what is good at reducing overjets
functional appliances
straight wire not very good
treatment of class IIs
growing patietn - functional appliance and orthodontic camouflage non growing - OC^ - orthognatic surgery
functional appliance treatments
activators
- mild non crowded places
twin blok
- severe crowed cases
orthodontic camouflage
fixed appliances +- extractions to correct WO surgery
what is key to planning anchorage
lower arch crowding
molar and canine relationship
class 2 incisor, class 1 molar
no XLA
just arch wire to pull teeth back
what can be used for anchorage
- headgear
- palatal arches (bar accross palate)
- implants ( can place force on the implant, fixed with miniscrews)
- class II elastics
tx for no lower crowding , class II half molars
1) non extraction
- distal movement
- use of headgear
2) extraction upper 7s
- distal movement of the 6
3) extraction upper premolars
- will end up in a class 2 position, everything has moved one unit forward, whilst bringing the 1,2,3 back
full class 2 more stable
lower crowding molar class tx
class I - upper and lower extractions half unit class II upper and lower extractions 1/2 premolars depending on crowding extent class 2 upper and lower extractions severe anchorage problems ,cannot let molars move, elastics placed - 2 units out from top and bottom
