Two Methods To Find Volume Of Irregular Solid Flashcards
Method One (Measuring Cylinder)
For an object that sinks in water
For an object that sinks in water
Step1- pour water into measuring cylinder
Step2- read volume of the water & record it as V1
Step3- gently lower irregular object with a piece of string into water in measuring cylinder
Step4- read the volume of water & record as V2
Volume of object= V2 - V1
Method One (Measuring Cylinder)
For an object that floats in water
For an object that floats in water
Step1- pour water into measuring cylinder
Step2- lower a sinker into measuring cylinder
Step3- read volume of water & record as V1
Step4- tie sinker object to the object
Step4- lower irregular object & sinker into measuring cylinder
Step6- read volume of water & record as V2
Volume of object= V2 - V1
Method Two (Displacement(Eureka) Can)
For an object that sinks in water
For an object that sinks in water
Step1- set up Eureka can & place a beaker under the sprout
Step2- pour water into Displacement can until it overflows into beaker
Step3- replace beaker with measuring cylinder
Step4- gently lower irregular object using a string
*Volume of water collected in measuring cylinder is equal to volume of irregular object *
Method Two (Displacement(Eureka) Can)
For an object that floats in water
For an object that floats in water
Step1- set up Eureka can & place beaker under the sprout
Step2- pour water into Displacement can until it overflows into beaker
Step3- lower the sinker into Displacement can
Step4- replace beaker with measuring cylinder
Step5- gently lower irregular object & sinker into Displacement can
Volume of water collected in measuring cylinder is equal to volume of irregular solid
