TWA founders
Lofguist and Dawis influenced by Parsons Model (1909)
‘Top’ of the model
Person has Abilities, the job/work Environment have Requirement of Abilities; if there is a fit, there is CORRESPONDENCE, and this will result in SATISFACTORINESS
‘Bottom’ of the model
Person has Needs/Values, the job/work Environment have Reinforcers, if there is a fit there is CORRESPONDENCE, this will result in SATISFACTION
Adjustment styles
- Flexible
- Active adjustment
- Reactive adjustment
- Perseverance
Flexibility style
Tolerance for discorrespondence before doing something about it.
High flexibility means that correspondence between needs/values and reinforcers is not as important
Active adjustment ‘strategy’
When a person (or Environment) is dissatisfied
Person can try to change the Environment
Or the Environment can attempt to change the Person
The key for this ‘strategy’ is the action is doing something of the OTHER party
Reactive adjustment ‘strategy’
When a person (or Environment) is dissatisfied
Person attempts to change something WITHIN themselves or the Environment attempts to change something WITHIN the work environment.
The key for this ‘strategy’ is the action is doing something within- not others.
Perseverance ‘strategy’
How long the person will work to achieve correspondence before leaving OR
How long the job will stay with the person to achieve correspondence before firing
