SCCT Flashcards
SCCT Overview
Self-efficacy
Outcome expectations
Personal goals
Bandura’s Theory (1986)
We interact in a social world and are naturally (inherently) social. But function cognitively in how we process information.
SCCT founders names?
Robert Lent, Stephen Brown, and Hackett (1994)
Interest model?
Interest = SE + OE;
Interest is a result of Self-Efficacy and Outcome Expectations
Factors relevant to the development of SE & OE:
- Social persuasion (family, professors, friends, the media, etc.)
- Performance accomplishments (doing it is much more powerful than saying it; and doing successfully is what indicates repeating again)
- Modeling or vicarious experiences (seeing other people like “me” in the media or doing what the person is planning to pursue)
- Benefit from accomplishment
If these areas are positive the person will have strong self-efficacy beliefs in the area of talent, and therefore develop interest.
Choice model?
All else being equal, interest equals choices
Supports and Barriers: Low Barriers and High Support more likely to have correlation with interest and choice (r=.75) and in worse circumstances High Barriers and Low Support (r= .29)
Performance model?
Abilities + Self-Efficacy = Performance
When performance is met:
- Establish challenging goals
- Effort into work
- Persist (even when barriers are present)
