Q

Interest model?

A

Interest = SE + OE;
Interest is a result of Self-Efficacy and Outcome Expectations

Factors relevant to the development of SE & OE:

  1. Social persuasion (family, professors, friends, the media, etc.)
  2. Performance accomplishments (doing it is much more powerful than saying it; and doing successfully is what indicates repeating again)
  3. Modeling or vicarious experiences (seeing other people like “me” in the media or doing what the person is planning to pursue)
  4. Benefit from accomplishment

If these areas are positive the person will have strong self-efficacy beliefs in the area of talent, and therefore develop interest.

Q

Choice model?

A

All else being equal, interest equals choices

Supports and Barriers: Low Barriers and High Support more likely to have correlation with interest and choice (r=.75) and in worse circumstances High Barriers and Low Support (r= .29)

Q

Performance model?

A

Abilities + Self-Efficacy = Performance

When performance is met:

  1. Establish challenging goals
  2. Effort into work
  3. Persist (even when barriers are present)
