Slump test
Positive test is reproduction of symptoms - shooting or electrical pain down the leg
* indicating increased pressure on the nerve root
Adding trunk rotation = tests intercostal nerves
Also tests for spinal degeneration and meningitis
Kemps test
Positive test is radicular pain in thigh or leg
Tests for acute inflammatory lesions, local sprain/strain, facet irritiation, and spinal fracture
If there is local back pain it is not a positive but should still be noted
Distraction test
Positive test is decreased/relived pain due to pressure on the nerve root being elivated
Increased pain on distraction may come from muscle spasm, ligament sprain, muscle sprain, or disc herniation
