Spurlings test (compression)
Positive test is if pain radiates into the arm towards which side of the haed is flexed
* This would indicate pressure on the nerve root = cervical radiculitis
Tests for local sprain/strain, joint damage, facet irritaion, or cervical sublux
Local neck pain is not a positive test
Jackson’s compression test
Positive test is increased peripheral pain and/or altered sensation
Tests for increased pressure on the nerve root
Cervical distraction test
Positive test is increased local pain
* muscles, ligaments, or capsules
Positive test is decreased radicular pain
* increased pressure on the nerve root
Positive test is decreased local pain
* Facet irritation or DJD
