Upper fibers- Elevation, rotational elevation

Origin: inferior angle of scapula, spinous process of last 6 thoracic vertebrae, last 3 or 4 ribs, thoracolumbar aponeurosis and posterior iliac crest

Insertion: intertubercular groove of the humerus

Nerve: Thoracodorsal nerve
