tropia Flashcards

1
Q

benefits of squint surgery

A
  • cosmetics
    reduce dip, eye strain
    sometimes improve steropsis
can make amblyopia therapy less intense

good for newly formed squints- that haven’t developed adaptations like supression or amblyopia yet or can’t as they are an adult

Q

limitations of squint sugery

A
  • further surgery being needed to full correct squint - i.e if squint is severe
    over correct or under correct
    -permenant dip
  • an infection- build up of pus or fluid around the eye . may require tx with antibiotics

eye muscles slipping out of pos i.e redrifting into trope may need muscles to correct for this

Q

What is a tropia?

A

tropia is a misalignment of the eyes that is always present. Even when the eyes are both open and trying to work together.

One eye fixates and the other deviates

A tropia is the resting position that your eyes go to when covered or when fusion is broken by repetitively alternately covering each eye.

can be seen without the cover test

16
Q

what is Microtropia without identity

A

va - amblyopia at least 1 line
ct sm tropia
sensory fusion ARC x on baggolinni gas
reduced stereopsis=The brain adapts to the misalignment by remapping the visual input from the deviated eye to correspond with the straight eye, reducing the risk of diplopia but potentially complicating treatment.

ct shows tropia as eye switches bw these points on ct

17
Q

what is the management of Microtropia

A
  • prescribe significant rx
    treat amblyopia
18
Q

in general what is the management of tropia

A

rx correction - accomodative sot
occlusion therapy
Prism Glasses: Used to alleviate diplopia (double vision) by shifting the image to align with the deviating eye’s image, providing binocular vision without requiring the eye to move.
onvergence Exercises:
Botulinum Toxin (Botox)

Temporary Paralysis: Botox injections into specific eye muscles can temporarily weaken overactive muscles, helping to align the eyes. This can be a treatment option for certain types of strabismus.
