tribunals are more specialised then Courts held in public
difference between courts and tribunals
- most decision-makers are tribunals are not trained Liars
- tribunals are less formal than courts gowns and wigs are not warn
- legal costs are not normally awarded to the party in a tribunal hearing
administrative tribunals
these types of tribunals deal with social security, employment, rent, and immigration appeal
the other type of tribunal is
employment dealing with this disputes between employer and employee unfair dismissal sex and racial discrimination
how tribunals work
-there are three members the chair, one representing the employers and one trade union representative
domestic tribunals
deals with matters relating to internal workings of particular groups organisations
advantages of tribunals
- tribunals lift pressure off civil courts by dealing with cases
- there are no delays and expenses
- a lot cheaper to use and civil courts
- lawyers not always required
- tribunal panels are experts in type of dispute they are hearing
disadvantages of tribunals
-appeal routes from five uno’s can be complex and expensive some tribunals have no appealing route
-legal aid is not available for majority of tribunals, unequal
bargaining power
