Data triangulation
Combining secondary and primary data ensuring valid results
Methodological triangulation
Within method: which is different techniques within the same method e.g. Open and closed questions
Between method triangulation: which is combining different methods e.g. questionnaires and interviews
What is triangulation
It uses more than one method so that the different types of methods compensate for each other therefore it can be valid and reliable
Investigator triangulation
This involves the use of more than one researcher to reduce bias
Barker “moonies”
She is methodological triangulation by using questionnaires and interviews and overt observations to gain an understanding and qualitative and quantitative data. She also operationalised the word brainwashing to have the same meaning to everyone
Advantages
Positivists and interpretivists prefer, fuller picture gained as its reliable and valid. Advantages of one cow dates for the disadvantaged of another
Disadvantages
Time-consuming and expensive
