Media have been somewhat kinder to homosexuals showing there relationships in a sympathetic way, however plots tend to focus on homosexuality as a problem and how they come to terms with their sexuality.
AIDS and Watney
In the 1980’s media attention was on gays about aids, Watney showed how the British media stereotyped gay people as carriers of the “gay plague” the news reflected mainstream society’s fear of the gay community and the dislike. They said they only have their own “immoral and unnatural behaviour to blame”

Media participates in symbolic annihilation of gays and lesbians by negatively stereotyping them or not at all.
