Primary Survey

A
  • Stabilize head & neck if necessary
  • Assess lvl of consciousness (AVPU scale)
  • Assess & manage ABC’s as required
  • Expose & examine injuries - visualize, palpate where appropriate
  • Complete RBS
  • Intervene at each injury as per traumatic injuries list
  • Apply O2 (standard face mask or nasal cannula)
  • Consider the position based on findings and S/S
  • Apply cold pick & elevate injured limbs, if appropriate

Decision Point

A

Findings in Stable PT include:
- Alert, Oriented
- Adequate airway
- Deep & unlaboured breathing
- Strong regular radial pulse
- Absence of life or limb threatening injuries
- Pink, warm, dry skin

Load & Transport

A

Transport stable PT after all treatments and protocols administered. You may assess & manage a stable PT on scene if MOI indicates minor injuries. Constantly monitor PT in case they become RTC.

A
  • Critical History
  • Patient history (SAMPLE & OPQRRRST)
  • Vital signs
  • Notifications (ISBAR)
  • Head to toe and functional inquiry

  • Pain management protocol (if indicated)
  • Pain management protocol should be considered prior to definitive management of injuries
  • Monitor PT q15 mins for stable PT
