Q

what is rbc?

A

most numerous, they lose nucleus (no longer produces proteins) when mature, contains pigment called hemoglobin (iron/Fe), and is produced in bone marrow

Q

what is wbc?

A

larger than rbc, has one or more nuclei (produce antibodies), and is also produced in the bone marrow + lymph nodes

11
Q

what does a break in blood vessel cause?

A

it causes platelets to rupture and releases an enzyme that converts fibrinogen into fibrin which forms a mesh work “web” of fibers across the wound.

12
Q

what does the mesh work “web” do?

A

it traps blood cells forming a clot that stops bleeding.

15
Q

what is one type of active immunity?

A

being sick = antigen —> lymphocytes make antibody

16
Q

what is another way of active immunity?

A

vaccination = weakened antigen —> stimulate lymphocyte antibody production

17
Q

what is passive immunity?

A

“borrowed” / temporary—> immunity provided ends
ex: anti-venom produced by horses for snake bites

18
Q

what are allergies?

A

histamine production

19
Q

what is a’s antigen on rbc and antibodies in plasma?

A

a & anti-b

20
Q

what is b’s antigen on rbc & its antibodies on plasma?

A

b & anti-a

21
Q

what is ab’s antigen on rbc & antibodies in plasma?

A

a+b & neither a-b

22
Q

what is o’s antigen on rbc and antibodies in plasma?

A

neither a+b & anti-a+b
