what does the pharynx do?
moves air to trachea
what is the trachea?
wind pipe
what is the epiglottis?
flap that protects the opening of the trachea (“bolus”)
what is the larynx?
voice box (speech)
what are the tracheal rings?
cartilage rings that keeps the trachea open
what does the ciliated mucous membrane do?
it traps particles and beats cilia to move mucus up to the pharynx to expel particles via coughing or sneezing
what does the trachea split into?
2 bronchi
what are bronchioles?
bronchi that are branched into smaller tubes
what are bronchiole ends covered in?
alveoli (tiny hollow sacs)
