Q

Describe the mounting

A

2 pylon assemblies bolted to the aircraft roof

  • 1 degree left for translating tendency
  • 5 degreed forward for level cabin in forward flight

4 elastomeric corner mounts connect transmission to pylons
- primary vibration isolating components, for a vibration free ride through speed ranges

2 elastomeric transmission restraint spring assemblies

  • base and rear of each pylon
  • maintain proper alignment of engine to transmission main drive line
  • stop deck fittings on forward end of each restraint which limit transmission movement

21
Q

Describe Step-by-Step transmission oil system

A
  1. Pump scavenges oil from lower case
    - capacity: 5 quarts
    - output: 6-6.7 gal/min
    - pressure: approximately 52 PSI
  2. Oil drawn through wire screen/lower chip detector
  3. Oil directed to transmission mounted oil filter manifold
  4. Oil crosses temp bulb for oil temp indicator
  5. Oil crosses thermoswitch for the CAS
    - at or above 110C: Land as soon as Practical
  6. Oil moves to filter or bypasses
    - LRB extends 14 +/- 2PSID
    - Bypasses 17 PSID
  7. Based on oil temp …
    - No cooled if below 66C
    - Gradually cooled 66-81C
    - All cooled above 81C
  8. Passes pressure regulator
  9. Enters both sides of transmission and encounters upper chip detector
  10. Flows to oil manifold where it flows through pressure transducer and pressure switch for CAS
  11. Flows through firewall and T fitting into forward duplex bearing and aft bearing of the freewheeling unit
  12. Lubricates freewheeling sprag clutch and bearing
  13. Oil is collected in the forward freewheeling housing and passes freewheeling chip detector
  14. Oil returns to transmission lower case
