Avionics Flashcards
Describe the Garmin Display Units
GDUs 1040H
2 GDU 1040H
PFD and MFD
10.4 inch LCD (liquid crystal display) w/ 1024x768 resolution
- LCDs do not emit light, they reflect using a backlight
Units communicate with each other and with a High-Speed Data Bus (HSDB) connection
What are the PFD/MFDs called?
Garmin Display Unit (GDU) 1040H
Describe the Garmin Integrated Avionics Unit
GIA 63H
2 GIA 63H
Functions as main communication hub linking all LRUs (line Replaceable units)
Each contains a GPS SBAS receiver
- Space-based augmentation system(includes WAAS)
Each GIA 63H contains VHF com/nav/gs receivers, and a flight director (FD) and system integration microprocessors
Each GIA 63H is paired with a respective GDU 1040H via HSDB connection
GIA 63Hs are not paired together and do not communicate with each other directly
What are the Integrated Avionics Units called?
IAU 1 and 2
or
GIA 63H 1 and 2
Describe the Garmin Data Computer
GDC 74H
GDC 74H “Air Data Computer”
There is 1 GDC 74H
- Processes date from pitot/static system and OAT probes
- Provides: PA, ASI, VRS, OAT info to G1000H
- Communicates with each GIA 63H, GDU 1040H and GRS 77H (Garmin Reference System “AHRS”)
- Designed to operate in reduced vertical separation minimum (RVSM) airspace
What is the Air Data Computer called?
Garmin Data Computer
GDC 74H
Describe the Garmin Engine Airframe Processor
GEA 71H
Garmin Engine Airframe Processor
There is 1 GEA 71H
- Receives and processes signals from the engine and airframe sensors
- Communicates with both GIAHs
What is the Garmin Engine Aircraft Processor called?
GEA 71H
Describe the Garmin Signal Conditioner
GSC 46
Garmin Signal Condition
There is 1 GSC 46
- converts tachometer and engine torque info to digital format
- for use by the GEA 71H
What is the GSC 46?
How many are there?
1 Garmin Signal Conditioner
What is the “AHRS” of the aircraft?
Garmin Reference System
GRS 77H
What is the GRS 77H?
Garmin Reference System
“Air Heading Reference System”
What 3 things does the GRS 77H interface with?
The Garmin Reference System contains advanced sensors to interface with the:
- GMU 44 (Garmin Magnometer Unit) to obtain magnetic field info
- GDC 74H to obtain air data
- Both GIA 63Hs to obtain GPS info
Describe the Garmin Reference System “AHRS”
GRS 77H
There is 1 GRS 77H “AHRS”
- Provides aircraft attitude and heading info to both GDU 1040H units and both GIA 63H units
- Contains advanced sensors to interface with the:
1. GMU 44 (Garmin Magnometer Unit) to obtain magnetic field info
2. GDC 74H to obtain air data
3. Both GIA 63Hs to obtain GPS info
Describe the Garmin Magnetometer Unit
GMU 44
There is one GMU 44
- Measure local magnetic field
- Receives power from, and sends data to the GRS 77H to determine aircraft magnetic heading
