HeliSAS Flashcards
What version HeliSAS do we have?
Ver51 or lower
As signified by our “BC” Button
What is HeliSAS
An attitude-based flight control system
Provides significant reduction in pilot workload
What does SAS stand for?
Stability Augmentation System
When can the SAS be engaged?
During any phase of flight from liftoff to after touchdown
When do autopilot modes become available?
Above 44kts
Components of HeliSAS
"2SHAF" 2 Servo-actuators (pitch and roll axes) HeliSAS Control Panel (CP) Attitude Reference source (gyro horizontal indicator or GRS) Flight Control Computer (FCC)
HeliSAS can interface with…
GPS nav
VHF nav
HSI
Directional Gyro
What is BeepTrim for?
used to modify attitude in SAS
What does the 4 beep sound mean?
Means system is disengaged either automatically or by the pilot
Also occurs during each start-up self-test
Attitude limits
6 degrees nose-down pitch
11 degrees nose-up pitch
+/- 5 degrees bank
How does SAS function in Unusual Attitudes?
If engaged at pitches of -10 to 15 degrees or roll +/-6 degrees it will recover to a level attitude
What is the proper technique for flying with SAS?
“Fly Through” a push and release technique to achieve desired attitudes. Best to avoid holding the button down while trying to establish a trimmed attitude
What are the ways to disconnect?
Red button on cyclic or soft key selectors.
With SAS and AP on, first red button will disconnect all AP functions, second will disconnect SAS
Will you have SAS if you loose Hydraulics?
SAS should be disconnected because it will not function properly without functioning hydraulic controls.
Will you have SAS in potential ice conditions?
SAS should be disconnected because it will not work properly in extremely unusual situations where there is significant ice build up on the servos.
