Translation 4 (John 1:9-14)

Question 1

9 Ἦν τὸ φῶς τὸ ἀληθινόν, ὃ φωτίζει πάντα ἄνθρωπον, ἐρχόμενον εἰς τὸν κόσμον.

Answer 1

The true light, which enlightens every man, was coming into the cosmos.

Question 2

10 ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ ἦν, καὶ ὁ κόσμος δι᾿ αὐτοῦ ἐγένετο, καὶ ὁ κόσμος αὐτὸν οὐκ ἔγνω.

Answer 2

He was in the cosmos, and the cosmos came into being through him, but the world (did) not know him.

Question 3

11 εἰς τὰ ἴδια ἦλθεν, καὶ οἱ ἴδιοι αὐτὸν οὐ παρέλαβον.

Answer 3

Into his own things he came, and his own did not receive him.

Question 4

12 ὅσοι δὲ ἔλαβον αὐτόν, ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς ἐξουσίαν τέκνα θεοῦ γενέσθαι, τοῖς πιστεύουσιν εἰς τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ,

Answer 4

But as many as received him, to them he gave authority to become children of God, to the ones believing in his name.

Question 5

13 °οἳ οὐκ ἐξ αἱμάτων οὐδὲ ἐκ θελήματος σαρκὸς οὐδὲ ἐκ θελήματος ἀνδρὸς⸌ ἀλλ᾿ ἐκ θεοῦ ἐγεννήθησαν.

Answer 5

Those who were born - not from blood and not from will of flesh and not from the will of man - but from God.

Question 6

Καὶ ὁ λόγος σὰρξ ἐγένετο καὶ ἐσκήνωσεν ἐν ἡμῖν, καὶ ἐθεασάμεθα τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ, δόξαν ὡς μονογενοῦς παρὰ πατρός, πλήρης χάριτος καὶ ἀληθείας.

Answer 6

And The Word became flesh and lived with us, and we have beheld his glory, glory like (the) one and only of (the) Father, full of grace and truth.
