Translation 3 (Luke 24:44–49)

Question 1

44 Εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς· οὗτοι οἱ λόγοι μου οὓς ἐλάλησα πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἔτι ὢν⸃ σὺν ὑμῖν, ὅτι δεῖ πληρωθῆναι πάντα τὰ γεγραμμένα ἐν τῷ νόμῳ Μωϋσέως καὶ τοῖς προφήταις καὶ ψαλμοῖς περὶ ἐμοῦ.

Answer 1

Then he said to them, “these are my words that I spoke to you, I was still being with you, that it is necessary to be fulfilled all the things which were written in the law of Moses and the prophets and psalms about me.”

45 τότε διήνοιξεν αὐτῶν τὸν νοῦν τοῦ συνιέναι τὰς γραφάς·

then he opened their mind to understand the scriptures.

46 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὅτι οὕτως γέγραπται παθεῖν τὸν χριστὸν καὶ ἀναστῆναι ἐκ νεκρῶν τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ,

And he said to them that “thus it has been written the Christ will suffer, and will rise from the dead ones on the third day,

47 καὶ κηρυχθῆναι ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι αὐτοῦ μετάνοιαν εἰς ἄφεσιν ἁμαρτιῶν εἰς πάντα τὰ ἔθνη. ἀρξάμενοι ἀπὸ Ἰερουσαλὴμ

And to be preached upon the basis of his name, repentance for forgiveness of sins to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

48 ὑμεῖς μάρτυρες τούτων.

You (are) witnesses of these things.

49 καὶ [ἰδοὺ] ἐγὼ ἀποστέλλω τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν τοῦ πατρός μου ἐφ᾿ ὑμᾶς· ὑμεῖς δὲ καθίσατε ἐν τῇ πόλει ἕως οὗ ἐνδύσησθε ἐξ ὕψους δύναμιν.

And look, I myself am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But you sit in the city until you yourselves are clothed from power on high.
