Transition Metals Flashcards
Where can transition metals be found?
They do not have a particular group, but can be found in the middle block of the Periodic Table (between groups 2 and 3).
What are transition metals main properties?
- Dense
- Strong
- Shiny
- Malleable
Whatt are transition metals ions like?
Unlike Alkali metals which can only for 1+ ions, transition metals can form ions with different charges.
The number in the brackets tells you which ion the compound has contains.
What’s different about transition metal compounds?
The different ions can form compounds with different colours. They can be used in paints and pottery.
Catalysts?
Transition metals and their compounds make great catalysts.
A catalyst is a substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without being changed or used up itself.
