Noble Gases Flashcards
1
Q
Where are Noble gases found in the PT?
A
The elements of group 0 are classed to be Noble gases.
2
Q
How do they react?
A
They are inert elements which means they are unreactive
3
Q
Why are the inert?
A
As they already have a full outer shell of 8 electrons, they do not need to lose or gain electrons. At room temperature, they remain as colourless monatomic gases.
4
Q
What does monatomic mean?
A
Atoms which are not bonded to anything else.
5
Q
What are the trends down the group?
A
The boiling and melting points increase down the group.
6
Q
What are uses of Noble Gases?
A
- In air ships
- In light bulbS
- In welding (to stop metals from reacting with oxygen)
- To store highly reactive metals/elements
