What are learned skills ?
They are skills that can be transferred from one sporting situation to another.
What are the 4 ways of transferring skills ?
- positive
- negative

- bilateral
What is a positive transfer of skills ?
- Learning one skill helps learning another
- The two skills have similar shape and from
- The movements of one skill help another
What is an example of a positive transfer of skills ?
A volleyball serve has similar movement to help with a tennis serve.
What is a negative transfer of skills ?
- The actions of one skill hinders the learning of the other
- There is some similarity between the environments of the skills
- This means there may be confusion when the skills aren’t then the same
What is an example of a negative transfer of skills ?
Tennis and badminton serve because one uses the arm and one uses the wrist.
What is a zero transfer of skills ?
- The learning of one skill has no effect on another
- Thetwo skills in question have no similarities and no confusion
What is an example of zero transfer skills
Table tennis and gymnastics have no relation or effect
What is bilateral transfer of skills ?
- This type of transfer is from one limb to another
What is an example of a bilateral skill ?
- Shoulder passes in netball (should be equal ability on both the left hand and the right hand side)
