transfer of learning Flashcards
Define positive transfer
The learning of one skill aids the learning of another skill , the skills have a similar shape or form to allow this
Define negative transfer
The action of one skill hinders the learning of another skill, usually performed in a similar environment but with a different shape or action, for example a tennis shot is played using the arm to generate power where a squash shot uses the wrist to generate power however they are both performed in similar environments therefore confusion could occur
Define zero transfer
The learning of one skill has no effect on the learning of another skill because there is no similarity in the shape or form of the skill, for example a tennis serve and a free-kick in football
Define bilateral transfer
The learning of a skill is transferred across the body from one limb to another, for example a football pass could be learned on the players stronger foot to perfect the technique and the transferred to their weaker foot to learn
