Q

Define whole-part-whole practice and what are the advantages?

A

The performer attempts the whole skill to get a feel for the kinaesthetics of the skill, then break the skill in parts or subroutines (which can be used to correct an error in the skill) and then the skill is put back together again once perfected, the advantages are that it allows for feedback and therefore a specific weakness to be highlighted and corrected

Q

Define progressive part practice and what are the advantages?

A

The initial part of the skill is taught with the next part or subroutine being added once the last part of the skill was perfected in a sequence until the skill is complete, the advantages are that it promotes the links between certain subroutines or parts and ensures that the skill is correct whilst being learned
