Transcription and Translation Flashcards
1
Q
Role of mRNA in transcription
A
In the nucleus, the mRNA directs the synthesis of proteins. mRNA formed in the nucleus is transported out of the nucleus and into the cytoplasm where it attaches to the ribosomes
2
Q
Role of mRNA in translation
A
Carry protein information from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, where the protein making machinery reads the mRNA sequence and translates each codon into its corresponding amino acid in a growing protein chain.
3
Q
tRNA in translation
A
carry amino acids to the ribosome and join with their complementary codons.
4
Q
rRNA in translation
A
bind both mRNA and tRNA to make it easier of the process of translating mRNA’s codon sequence into amino acids.
