Gene expression Flashcards
1
Q
Translation
A
Process in which polypeptides are assembled in the ribosomes
2
Q
Transcription
A
Process in which copy of DNA is made and travels to the cytoplasm from the nucleus
3
Q
mRNA
A
RNA polymerase reads DNA template strand to make complementary copy of mRNA
4
Q
Codon
A
Three bases that forms a triplet in which the ribosome reads mRNA
5
Q
tRNA
A
tRNA molecule with anticodon brings amino acid to the ribosome according to order of codons on the mRNA
6
Q
rRNA
A
Molecule that forms part of the ribosome
7
Q
Start codon
A
AUG, a codon that shows beginning for transcription and translation
8
Q
Stop codon
A
Polypeptide is released when stop codon is reached
9
Q
Gene expression steps
A
- RNA polymerase unwinds DNA template strand and creates mRNA
- mRNA travels to ribosome from the nucleus and tRNA which has complementary anticodon to mRNA brings amino acid
- Polypeptide is released once stop codon is reached
- Polypeptide is sent to ER for modification
