Mutation Flashcards
What caused mutation
DNA is copied when cells devide, and error occurs, leading to a change in base sequence.
Haemophilia
The body’s first response to bleeding is to seal the wound to prevent blood loss.
A genetic disease that causes blood to fail to clot properly.
What caused Haemophilia?
A base substitution, where C is replaced by T in the DNA. (This creates a stop codon in the mRNA rather than coding for the amino acid arginine.)
Mutation
Changes in base sequence of DNA that leads to altered mRNA which can lead to altered amino acid sequence
Substitution
Mutation that exchanges one base for another
Insertion
Extra base pairs inserted into a new place in the DNA, resulting in base pairs after insertion to be shifted down
Deletion
Section of DNA is deleted, resulting in base pairs after the deletion to move up
Duplication
A section of DNA copied one or more times
Missense
Single nucleotide base substitution that alters a codon so it codes for a different amino acid
Nonsense
Stop codon inserted early which results in premature termination of protein
