A

no! he could just be amped up.

21
Q

When would we bet our house on a dog being upset?

A

RG

22
Q

Whats the downside of diagnosing upset when he’s not?

A

Loss of time! Not as efficient

23
Q

Whats a OC Terminal for tail chasing

A

Dog sits/downs/stations on owner approach
No more self injury

24
Q

What is a CC Terminal for the dog who fears owner approach

A

The dog feels happy with the owner’s approach
No more self-injury

25
Q

What is the clearest A for the TP for the spinning dog example

A

Approach to the confinement area
Go for the big one.
The other things may take care of themselves!

26
Q

What should we beware of when we approach a case such as tail chasing?

A

Diagnosis Paralysis

27
Q

What will the CS be in the tail spinning?

A

CS - approach
US - Chicken

28
Q

What will the ABC be in the tail spinning plan?

A

A Approach
A “wait”
B sit stay/down stay
C Chicken

29
Q

What is the pavlovian plan for a tail spinner?

A

Setting 30 mins in confinement
CS wife approaches
US pick up kong stuff with chicken

Setting after2-3 hour absence
CS wife approaches
US pick up kong stuff with chicken

Setting after work
CS wife approaches
US pick up kong stuff with chicken

Setting first thing in the morning
CS wife approaches
US chicken

Setting - repeat 1 - 4
CS husband approaches
US chicken

30
Q

In the CC plan, what if he chases his tail on owner’s approach?

A

give him the chicken. This is CC

31
Q

What are the rules for CC?

A

1:1 ratio US/CS
Never have the CS without the US
check overshadow and blocking risks and eliminate or remove the 1:1 ratio of these things
Get order of events right - CS then US

32
Q

Why are we using a kong in the upset dog CC plan?

A

Enrichment element
May get a nice dri with the delivery of the kong
we then have an operant we can use

It’s not always easy to see a CER so it can be easier with a kong as we can then use this as an anticipation gauge

33
Q

What if the dog can’t eat the chicken on approach?

A

Dog is upset. Split back. Do whatever it takes. Make it more accessible if it’s a naive kong dog. reduce time even to a few seconds if needed! We’ve got to start somewhere!

34
Q

When would we make sure we were way below the threshold on CC plans

A

1 - when we could make the problem worse
2 - will the dog get a rap sheet
3 - will any one get hurt or bitten?
4 - what is the risk?

35
Q

What are some steps in an OC plan for tail spinning?

A

1 A down from stand on verbal
B down
C food, then kong with chicken, then gate opened

36
Q

Why is the order - Wife approaches, then verbal down

A

We want the A to be wife approaching

37
Q

What are sensible distance increments?

A

3 feet
5 feet
10 foot

38
Q

Why can we be chunky with a growly pup?

A

No one will get hurt if there is an opps moment
We aren’t having him rehearse a problem because he is so young

39
Q

What are the possible terminals for a growly pup?

A

CC Pup feels happy when picked up
OC Puppy sits quietly when picked up in the middle of play

40
Q

Is the growly pup upset?

A

Probably! he is at least uncomfortable

41
Q

How upset is the growly pup likely to be?

A

Mild

42
Q

Why are we calling the growly pup mild?

A

Because he’s so young! Little pup, with no long history

43
Q

Are we 100% sure hes upset?

A

no - its possible he is just amped up. Not likely - but possible.

44
Q

What is the growly pup was just going for bite without warning?

A

We’d be more worried about the prognosis because he doesn’t have warning signals but he is just a pup so we will probably see a fast curve of change

45
Q

What would you predict from a CER procedure wt a growly pup? if he was amped up and you did straight CC?? What would you see?

A

Orientation to where the treat comes from
Looking at treat pouch
Drooling
happy/love!

Orientating to a treat pouch is a B that you can then require! DRI
e.g. kong/treat pouch –> tip-off that we have the orientation.

46
Q

What is good practice for the snappy pup CER?

A

the Crate and handling
