Bell buzzer communication?
1 - stop 1 - 2 - close doors 2 - ready to start 2 - 2 - do not open doors 3 - set back 3 - 2 - 1 - testing doors 4 - slow down 6 - draw forward 9 - police assistance required
Right away indicator?
Bell buzzer not used
Person in charge will use Right away to relay senior conductor ready to start signal.
Will display RA or R.
Why do you use a Running brake test?
Test functionality of brakes
Gauge effectiveness of brakes
Test rail head conditions
Test brakes in adverse weather conditions.
How do you complete a running brake tests?
Train must be at a reasonable speed
Should achieve a retardation of 10 mph
Describe your actions at a whistle board?
Sound horn between 06.00 and 23.59.
Do not sound horn except in an emergency or you see anyone on or near the line between 00.00 and 05.59.
Use continuous low tone for 3 seconds
If you see someone on or near the line use high and low tones.
Use of warning horn?
For anyone on or near the line use high and low tones.
Urgent warning or anyone dangerously near line use high tone.
When Passing a whistle board between 06.00 and 23.59 use low tone for 3 seconds
For a warning to depot or siding use low tone soft setting
For a special or local code use high tone
For wrong direction movements use high tone.
When approaching buffer stops?
Max speed is 15mph from the platform ramp and 7 mph at the TPWS grids.
Stop 2 metres short of buffer stop.
Standing at a signal, what actions would you take?
Press SG button to notify signaller unless you can see an obvious reason for the signal at danger.
Provide train reporting number
Letters and number of the signal
That you are speaking to the correct signaller
Use GSMR in first instance
If GSMR not working?
Use telephone at another signal
Use lineside telephone
Go to signal box
Describe permissive working?
Allows more than 1 train ag a time to be o n the same line in any block section, signal section, or dead end platform line.
A shunting signal ca be signalled into a section with another train to attach, detach or remove vehicles.

What does a white diamond indicate?
The presence of the train or shunting movement is indicated to the signaller by track circuit.
