Explain the abbreviation H.O.T?
Hidden

If yes to H or O, treat the item as suspicious

If you find a suspicious device, what should you do?
If on train contact signaller
Use PA to try and locate owner of item
If device is on the lineside contact the signaller
Only evacuate train if instructed to do so
Who will carry the Green pass and what does it entitle them to?
Card holder plus 3 guests
Authorised to instruct or assess drivers
Competent in rules regs STDs applicable
Blue pass?
Cardholder plus 2 guests
Usually a manager / competent person
Competent in pts and rules and regs
Able to assist driver in protection duties or emergency procedures.
Who can Travel in driving cabs?

Driving under instruction eg Instructor
Or in connection with your own duties
Driver to ensure that there is only 2 people in the cab (including the driver) at any time unless cab passes authorise more.
What should you do if you see Suspicious persons?
Try to find out if person is authorised to be there
If cannot do this tell person in charge or call police
Ate they wearing company branded clothing
If suspicious persons are track side call signaller
Who is allowed in the driver cab?
Another driver in the course of the drivers duties
A senior conductor who is authorised to carry out their duties
A rolling stock technician
A pilotman
NR operations manager in an emergency
Holders of driving cab passes
Where WMT instructions permit
Yellow pass?
Competent in PTS and cab discipline
Held by technical staff such as company fitters
Allowed in cab for fault finding
Purple pass?
Authorised to instruct/assess conductors Access via internal doors only Rear cab 2 guests Competent in rules and regs and STDs applicable to senior conductor Normally conductor managers Non driving cab pass
Black pass?
Route learning pass
Issued to TOC or FOC train drivers who are route learning
1 black cab pass in driving cab only.
Pink pass?
Newly qualified driver certificate
Must carry at all times
Must show when declining other cab visitors
Usually withdrawn after 1 year
Not allowed anyone else in the cab except green or blue holders when authorised within rule book
If lose report to DM
Violet and orange book
Signaller grade cab pass
Issued by NR
Will note head code to/from destination and ask driver to sign
Only by themselves in accordance with their duties
Staff id cards?
Wear it
Display it
Challenge anyone without it
Cab etiquette?
Switch off mobile devices Do not distract driver Keep a good lookout Show cab pass on request Obey any instructions from driver
Mobile phone protocol?
Must be off in driving cab except in an emergency where no other comms available.
Also no tablets, iPods, smart watches.
