Traditional Navigation Aids Flashcards
What is a “Traditional Navigation Aid”?
• Basically, anything that is not satellite based, including:
• NDB
• VOR
Localizer
•ILS
Any of the above may be combined with DME.
What are examples of traditional navigation methods?
Basically anything that is not satellite based: VOR, NDB, Localizer, ILS or any of the above combined with DME.
ILS
Instrument Landing System
What does the chart offer when the glide path is inoperative on an ILS approach?
Localizer (LOC) only approach
DME
Distance Measuring Equipment
The “barbed arrow” indicating a procedure turn is always ___° from the final approach track.
45°
What does a procedure turn accomplish?
A procedure turn allows pilot to establish the aircraft on the final approach track when approaching from any direction.
No PT
No Procedure Turn - minimum altitude to fly straight in (when not using a procedure turn)
RASS Box
Remote Altimeter Setting Source - tells the altitude to be added to all procedures when using the remote altimeter
Describe a circling missed approach
Fly missed approach for the runway you approached on. NOT the runway you were circling to.
Turn towards the airport as you climb (to more closely align with the proper track)
What’s the difference between a straight in approach and a straight in landing?
Straight in approach means “no procedure turn”
Strength in landing means “no circling”
NDB
Non-Directional Beacon
