What is a trade union?
An organisation that try to protect the interests of their members
Give examples of what trade unions can help its members with
Higher pay
Shorter hours
Better working conditions
Legal disputes with employers
What are the 2 types of trade union?
Industry Specific- only accept members in particular jobs (National Union of Journalists)
General- For workers in any job from any industry (GMB and Unite)
What is an industrial dispute?
When employers and unions don’t agree
What is a strike?
When a group of workers refuse to work, causing a loss of output and disruption for the firm- strikers don’t get paid
What’s a work to rule?
Workers do exactly as their job description says, they refuse to do extras
What’s a go slow?
Workers work as slowly as possible- slowing down productivity
What is an overtime ban?
Workers will only work the hours of their standard working week, meaning some firms don’t meet important orders on time
