What is Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs (MHoN)?
A theory about human motivation
What are some physiological/ physical survival needs (MHoN)?
Food, water, shelter, clothing and warmth- met by a basic wage
What are some safety needs (MHoN)?
Security, feeling safe from harm- managers should give workers job security
What are some love and belonging needs (MHoN)?
Friends, relationships- managers should encourage teamwork and social contact
What are some self-esteem needs (MHoN)?
Feeling accomplishment, valued- managers should give praise, financial rewards, encourage staff
What are some self- actualisation needs (MHoN)?
Feeling that your achieving something- managers should set personal targets
List the order of MHoN from bottom to top

How does training boost motivation?
It allows staff to become better at their job- good for self-esteem
They learn new skills so can achieve new things, not be bored and frustrated- self-esteem
Can meet personal targets- self-actualisation
What are the 4 types of management style?
Autocratic- make decisions alone, not staff input
Paternalistic- consult workers before making decisions
Democratic- staff have some influence on decisions
Laissez-faire- workers perform tasks in the way they like, and the manager helps in needed
What can be bad about autocratic/ authoritarian leadership?
Laissez-faire?
(A) Workers can feel that their views aren’t valued
(LF) Only really works for independent staff that are motivated, staff who need support are left out
Why are motivated staff important?
Preform better- produce more and better quality products
Stay with a company longer- saves money on recruitment and training new workers
Easier for a manager- doesn’t have to motivate them
