- You can make sure the portion of the line concerned is clear after the passage of each train.
- A competent person has been appointed to report the train has passed complete with tail lamp.
- You have seen the train occupy and clear the track circuit ahead of the signal beyond the affected portion of line.
- If the track circuit is between two signal boxes, you have introduced signal by Bell or telephone

If a track circuit is showing occupied on a bidirectional line, the Signallers options are (2)

- If train pass over bi-directional line in one direction only, they may treat the track circuit showing occupied as if it were on a double line
- If trains are to pass over the track circuit in both directions, they must apply the regulations for working single and bi-directional line by pilot.
