Single Line Working Flashcards
Principle of SLW
When one line of a double line becomes blocked, SLW by PILOT allows trains to travel over the other line in either direction.
TCB area, line can be divided as long as (3)
- Arrangements authorised in SBSI.
- Arrangement is authorised by a network rail area operations manager.
- Intermediate handsignaller is appointed as shown in SBSI
Instruct person working on ground frame to keep release in the release position unless
Signals protecting the crossover are individually and directly controlled from the signal box
What to record between two signal boxes for SLW (3)
- The times that bell signals or phone messages are exchanged.
- The times trains enter and leave the single line.
- The times trains enter and leave each section of the single line when the single line is divided into two sections.
No handsignaller or main aspect: Points facing (3)
- Crossover reversed.
- The line is clear up to and including the overlap of the next signal beyond the crossover.
- The PILOT travels with every train.
No handsignaller or main aspect: Points trailing (3)
- Crossover correctly set.
- The line is clear to a point 400m beyond the crossover.
- PILOT travels with every train.
Trains returning to proper line: Points facing with handsignaller (3)
- Crossover set and secured in correct position.
- The line is clear up to and including the overlap of the next stop signal beyond the crossover.
- You must tell the handsignaller that the train can be allowed to proceed without being stopped if the driver is given the necessary instructions.
Train returning to proper line: Points trailing with handsignaller (2)
- Place necessary signals to danger to protect the movement.
- Tell the handsignaller to make sure that the driver understands what is to happen.
Where will the hand signaller be placed?
Positioned opposite the signal protecting the crossover on the obstructed line
