Describe the drug diphenhydramine and its receptor?
Diphenhydramine is an H1 receptor antagonist used to ameliorate the effects of histamine in allergic conditions. The antagonist would cross the blood brain barrier and antagonist the H1 receptors in the CNS causing sleepiness.
Describe terfenadine?
It as 2nd generation H1 receptor antagonist that produces an off target effect by interaction with the cardiac potassium channels leading to cardiac death.
