topic b- genetic factors effecting developement Flashcards
what are predisposition diseases
. inherited genes that determine physical growth, development, health and appearance
what are susceptible diseases
. an increased liklihood of aquiring a disease because of an indication of individuals genetic makeup
what are biological factors
. the environment inside a mothers womb can have a dramatic influence on a childs development can effect long- term including attention span and learning disabilities
what does predisposition mean
> means you inherit genes that determine physical growth, from one or both of your parents
does not mean you can develop a condition
how can genetic conditions be helped/ improved
= changing environmental factors, support and treatment
what are some genetic conditions
- cystic fibrosis
- duchene muscular dystrophy
- colour blindness
what does susceptible mean
= an increased liklihood of acquiring a disease because of an individuals genetic makeup
= individual may not be born with diseases their genetic makeup makes them more susceptible
what are some susceptible diseases
. diabetes
. asthma
. some cancers
. heart problems
how can biological factors effect foetal development
> when a woman smokes or drinks alcohol during pregnancy can be effected
how do factors effect this
> nicotine in smoking contains Co2, gets into blood stream, restricting amount of oxygen
how does this impact the foetus
> children born to mothers who smoke, wigh less, more prone to infection, and twice more likely to die of cot death
what are future impacts
> includes attention span, and learning disabilities. taking drugs causing infection and damages to foetus
