Topic 6.1 - collision theory and rates of reaction Flashcards
Instantaneous rate
The rate at a specific point in the reaction
Initial rate
The rate at the beginning of the equation
Often used to compare rate of reaction
Average rate
Rate of the reaction over time
Homogenous catalyst
In the physical same state as the reactants
Heterogenous catalyst
In the opposite physical state as the reactants
Ineffective collision
Orientation of the reaction is not favourable so the collision does not cause a reaction to occur
Effective collision
Orientation of the reaction is favourable so the collision does cause a reaction to occur
Maxwell-Boltzmann energy curve
x-axis: Kinetic energy
y-axis: Fraction of particles with kinetic energy
