Topic 5.3 - Bond enthalpies Flashcards
1
Q
Bond enthalpy
A
The energy required to break one mole of bonds in one mole of covalently bonded molecules
2
Q
Why bond enthalpy values may not be exact
A
A bond enthalpy value is a general average over many molecules and is not specific so it will not be exact and give exact answers
3
Q
When calculating bond enthalpy
A
ALWAYS DRAW MOLECULE
Account for EVERY bond and all double/triple bonds (ie C₃H₇CHO has 3 C-C bonds, not 4 and there is a C=O bond)
