What was the Nazi aim for aryan women?
To become housewives or mothers because Hitler would need a vast Aryan population to rule lands conquered by the Nazis

All women sacked from their jobs couldn’t work in civil service

Couldn’t become a judge
What did was marriage loan scheme of 1933?
Offered 600 mark loan to women to left their job to get married. For every child you had you didn’t have to pay 25% of the loan back, meaning if you had 4 children you didn’t need to pay it back
What were welfare grants?
Increased taxes for childless couples, which would be used to pay for couples with children
What were the honour crosses?
Women were given a cross for their number of children (bronze = 4, silver = 6, gold = 8)
What was Lebensborn?
After 1935 unmarried women were encouraged to live in Lebensborn homes so SS men could impregnate them - ensure babies were racially pure
What were the changes to abortion, contraception and divorce laws?
Much harder to get contraception/an abortion (became illegal in 1933). Divorce was encouraged to couples who didn’t have children so they could have kids
What was the Nazi Women’s League?
Set up in 1931, led by Gertrud Scholtz-Klink, 2 million members
What was the law for the prevention of hereditary diseased children?
Nazis sterilised people with disabilities who might produce ‘imperfect children’ (their goal was to create a master Aryan race)
What could happen to women if their children looked dirty or poorly fed?
Could be sent to concentration camps
How did the Nazis control women’s appearance?
Couldn’t wear makeup, trousers, discouraged slimming and hair only in a bun or plaits
Did the Nazis succeed in their plans for Aryan women?
Number of marriages and babies born rose slowly, women weren’t removed from the workplace - many still worked in rearmament factories
What was duty year?
Created in 1937. Forced women to do factory work during WW2 due to the employee shortages
